IPL Match 6-8 : What We Missed

IPL Match 6 RR Vs. KKR

In the sixth match of IPL 2025 season, Rajasthan Royals met Kolkata Knight Riders. Rajasthan struggled throughout the game, showing little intent from their batters to stay at the crease and build a competitive total.

Quinton de Kock’s unbeaten knock guided Kolkata Knight Riders to their first victory on the IPL 2025 Points Table. After a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their opening game, KKR bounced back strongly in their second match, securing an eight-wicket win. Meanwhile, Rajasthan struggled in both games and remained winless, still searching for their first points in the ten-team tournament.

KKR’s bowlers deserve much of the credit for their disciplined line and length, which effectively restricted RR to 151-9 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel was the top scorer with 33 in the first innings of the match.

Clueless Captaincy

Stand-in skipper Riyan Parag struggled to handle the pressure of an IPL game, highlighting the impact of inexperience at this level. Despite leading Assam in domestic cricket, he appeared uncertain in his approach, which ultimately contributed to RR’s second consecutive loss of the season. Riyan will continue as captain in the upcoming match against Chennai Super Kings and will be eager to prove his leadership skills.

KKR Is Back To Winning Ways

Ajinkya Rahane’s side gladly opted to field first after winning the toss, a decision that worked in their favor along with the conditions. Every Knight Riders bowler contributed with wickets, while Andre Russell wasn’t even required to bowl. Sunil Narine’s absence had little impact, as Rahane’s team dominated with the ball. As a result, RR posted a below-par total, which the defending champions chased down with ease.

Quentin De Cock Shines

The standout performer of the day was Kolkata opener Quinton de Kock. After a disappointing outing against RCB, the Proteas batter stepped up with a clear intent. Following a cautious start, he took charge of the chase, shouldering the responsibility of scoring the bulk of the runs. His unbeaten 97 off 61 deliveries featured eight fours and six sixes, capped off with a winning shot over long-on.

IPL Match 7 : SRH vs LSG

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 191-run target in Match 7 of IPL 2025 turned out to be an easy chase for Lucknow Super Giants, who secured a comfortable five-wicket victory. With 23 balls to spare, LSG batters cruised through the chase, as David Miller sealed the win with a boundary off Ishan Kishan. Nicholas Pooran was the standout performer, smashing a blistering 70-run knock to ease the run chase.

LSG’s bowlers delivered a clinical performance at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, restricting SRH to under 200—a rarity in the IPL since last season. Shardul Thakur led the attack with an impressive spell, while Travis Head was the lone bright spot for Hyderabad in the first innings. Aniket Verma also provided a late flourish with a quick-fire cameo towards the end.

Unsold Thakur Is Still Worthy

Shardul struck early in his second over, dismissing opener Abhishek Sharma on the first ball and removing Ishan Kishan on the very next delivery. This double blow slowed SRH’s scoring, with only Travis Head managing to find boundaries while the rest struggled. Returning for his second spell, Shardul picked up two more wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 4-34 in his four overs. His final wicket of the day marked his 100th in IPL history. Additionally, the Palghar Express now holds the Purple Cap in IPL 2025.

Flamboyant Pooran

In the runchase, Lucknow Super Giants lost Aiden Markram early, but Nicholas Pooran wasted no time in counterattacking. Batting at a blistering pace, he raced to a fifty in just 18 balls—the fastest of the season so far. Pooran also shared a crucial 116-run stand with Mitchell Marsh, who scored 52 off 31 deliveries. The Caribbean powerhouse continued his aggressive stroke play, smashing 70 off just 26 balls before falling lbw to Pat Cummins.

SRH Tastes Defeat

Since Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma began opening for SRH, they have been one of the most feared duos in the league. However, Shardul Thakur made sure their impact was short-lived. While Head managed to find a few boundaries, he eventually fell to a superb yorker from Prince Yadav. During the chase, Pooran and Marsh counterattacked at a blistering pace, delivering a stark reminder to Pat Cummins’ side of cricket’s unpredictable nature.

IPL Match 8 CSK Vs. RCB

After a 17-year wait, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally triumphed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on Friday, March 28. With a commanding 50-run victory in the Southern Derby, RCB secured only their second-ever win at the venue in 18 editions of the IPL.

Despite the loss, Chennai had a few individual milestones to celebrate. MS Dhoni surpassed Suresh Raina to become the highest run-scorer in the franchise’s history. Left-arm spinner Noor Ahmad claimed the Purple Cap after taking seven wickets in just two matches. Ravindra Jadeja also delivered a decent spell, finishing with 2 for 36, but his efforts weren’t enough to prevent RCB from setting an above-par total in the first innings.

RCB Boasts A Strong Middle Order

After winning the toss, Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad opted to field first, allowing RCB to set the tone with the bat. Phil Salt provided an explosive start with a quickfire 32 off 16 balls before Noor Ahmad dismissed him. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli struggled for rhythm during his 30-ball stay, managing 31 runs. Devdutt Padikkal contributed with a brisk cameo, while skipper Rajat Patidar anchored the innings with a crucial half-century. Tim David delivered a powerful finish, helping RCB post a competitive total of 196/7 in 20 overs.

Chennai’s New Spin Magician

Just as Phil Salt was starting to look dangerous, CSK brought in Noor Ahmad, and the Afghan spinner made an immediate impact by dismissing both openers. Delivering a stellar spell, Noor claimed three wickets in his four overs while keeping the run flow under control. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma (12 off 6) also fell victim to Noor, marking his third dismissal of the match. With this performance, Noor Ahmad took his wicket tally to seven for the season, making him the leading wicket-taker in the 2025 IPL so far.

RCB Stands on Top Of The Table

With back-to-back wins against defending champions KKR and five-time winners Chennai, RCB now sit comfortably at the top of the IPL 2025 Points Table with four points and an impressive net run rate (NRR) of 2.266. Their next challenge comes against the 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans, in what will be their first home game of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Skipper Rajat Patidar will be eager to lead from the front and secure another victory to extend RCB’s dominance in the tournament.
